Die Proteinverlustenteropathie (PVE) ist ein durch verschiedene Ursachen ausgelöstes Syndrom, bei dem es zu einem pathologischen Verlust von Eiweiß über den Gastrointestinal­trakt kommt. Auf Gewebsebene können verschiedene Mechanismen zu einem Eiweißverlust führen. Beim Hund wird die PVE am häufigsten durch entzündliche Darmerkrankungen und intestinale Lymphangiektasie verursacht, wobei in den meisten Fällen beide auf den gleichen Prozess zurückzuführen sein dürften. Das intestinale Lymphom stellt eine weniger häufige Ursache für die PVE des Hundes dar. Bestimmte Rassen sind häufiger von PVE betroffen als andere. Nach der Bestätigung des intestinalen Proteinverlusts verläuft die diagnostische Aufarbeitung wie bei chronischen Enteropathien. Grundpfeiler der Therapie ist eine diätetische Behandlung. Immunsuppressiva sollten erst nach genauer Abklärung und gründlicher Abwägung der Vorteile und Risiken zum Einsatz kommen.

Summary

Protein losing enteropathy (PLE) is a syndrome that develops in various disorders leading to pathological loss of proteins via the gastrointestinal tract. Different mechanisms can lead to intestinal protein loss. In dogs, PLE is most commonly caused by chronic inflammatory enteropathies and intestinal lymphangiectasia, although both may be caused by the same aetiology in most cases. Intestinal lymphoma represents a less common cause of canine PLE. Certain breeds are more often affected by PLE than others. After confirmation of intestinal protein loss, diagnostic workup proceeds as for chronic enteropathies. Diet is the cornerstone of PLE treatment. Immunosuppressants should be used only after a thorough work up and careful assessment of the benefits and risks.
