Summary
Literature concerning scrotal torsion affecting healthy testicles is very rare. A case of a normally developed, tenmonth-old wolfhound with an enlarged and painful testicle was presented at our clinic. The owner had noticed the animal’s reluctance to move and a stiff gait in its hind legs. The dog’s general body condition was slightly impaired. During the clinical examination, pain and oedema in the area of the scrotum as well as an enlarged testicle on the right side were observed. The ultrasonographic examination showed evidence of a torsion of the right testicle. The surgical removal of the testicle revealed a 360-degree torsion. The pathohistological examination confirmed the diagnosis. Post-surgical healing went without complication.
