Feline atypical dermoid sinus in combination with a tetralogy of Fallot

Zusammenfassung

Eine 18 Monate alte weiblich kastrierte Russisch Blau mit bekannter Fallotscher Tetralogie wurde aufgrund einer Umfangsvermehrung an der linken Thoraxwand vorgestellt. Diese stellte sich nach Durchführung einer histologischen Untersuchung als Dermoidsinus dar. Mittels CT konnte der Dermoid­sinus von der linken Thoraxseite bis ins Peritoneum nachvollzogen werden. Es folgte eine chirurgische Entfernung mittels En-Block-Resektion des Dermoidsinus. Dafür mussten sowohl der Thorax als auch das Abdomen eröffnet sowie eine Teilresektion der letzten drei linken Rippen durchgeführt werden. Aufgrund der zusätzlich vorliegenden Fallotschen Tetralogie verschlechterten sich die Vitalparameter der Katze sowohl intra- als auch postoperativ, weshalb die Katze eingeschläfert wurde. Im besten Wissen der Autoren wurde die Kombination aus Dermoidsinus und Fallotscher Tetralogie als kombinierte Missbildung in der Veterinärmedizin noch nicht beschrieben.

Summary

A 18 month old castrated female russian blue with known tetralogy of Fallot presented for a soft tissue swelling at the left thoracic wall. A dermoid sinus was diagnosed by histopathological examination.  The CT facilitated a complete tracing of the dermoid sinus, extending from the left thoracic wall into the peritoneum. Surgical removal by means of en-block resection of the dermoid sinus followed. For this, the thorax and the abdomen had to be opened and a partial resection of the last three left ribs had to be carried out. Because of the tetralogy of Fallot, the vital parameters of the cat deteriorated both intraoperatively and postoperatively, which is why the cat was euthanized .To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the combination of dermoid sinus and tetralogy of Fallot as a combined malformation has not been described before in veterinary medicine.
