Die Augenoberfläche ist keine sterile, sondern eine voneiner natürlichen Mikrobiota besiedelte Oberfläche. Bei derAuswahl geeigneter Antibiotika zur Prophylaxe und Therapiebakterieller Infektionen der Augenoberfläche benötigtder behandelnde Tierarzt nicht nur ein solides Grundwissenüber die Mikrobiota der Augenoberfläche und möglichepathogene Keime, sondern auch einen Überblick über dieWirkungsweise und das Wirkungsspektrum der eingesetztenAntibiotika und deren mögliche unerwünschte Arzneimittelwirkungen.Diese Publikation bietet eine Literaturzusammenfassungüber die Mikrobiota am Auge von Hund und Katze sowieüber Bekanntes zu den derzeit ophthalmologisch eingesetztenAntibiotika. Sie soll so dem praktizierenden Tierarzteine Hilfestellung bei der Entscheidungsfindung geben.

Use of antibiotics for the treatment of ocular surface diseases indogs and cats
The ocular surface is not sterile, but is populated by physiologicalmicrobiota. When choosing an appropriate antibioticfor the prophylaxis or treatment of bacterial infectionsof the ocular surface, the veterinarian not only requiresknowledge of the microbiota and any possible pathogenicbacteria, but also a good understanding of the mechanismof action, the spectrum and possible adverse effects of theantibiotics available for ophthalmic use. This publicationprovides a summary of the literature about the microbiotaof dogs and cats, as well as information about the currentlyused antibiotics and should thus assist the practitioner withtheir decision-making.
