Summary
Angle-stable bone platesAngle-stable bone plates have a fundamentally different operating principle compared to conventional plates. Conventional plates are pressed onto the bone by screws and the resulting friction stabilises the fragments. During weight bearing, forces are directly transferred from the bone to the plate and the screws have to withstand mainly tensile forces. In contrast, angle-stable implants do not exert pressure or friction between the plate and the bone. Forces arising from the bone are not directly transmitted to the plate but have to pass through the screws. Therefore, the screws have to withstand bending forces and need to be adapted to this different operating principle. This type of osteosynthesis is also called internal fixation. The available angle-stable plate systems of Königsee, Kyon, Orthomed, Securos, Synthes, Traumavet and Veterinary Instrumentation differ significantly in their locking mechanisms, their plate and screw design, and their ranges of veterinary specific anatomical plates for special applications.
