Summary
A ten-year-old male Maine coon cat was presented with diarrhoea and weight loss. The examination showed a cystic mass in the animal’s cranial abdomen. The neoplasia was completely removed during laparotomy. It was not possible to determine which organ the mass belonged to. The cystic mass was in the gastrolienal (gastrosplenic) ligament and the greater omentum next to the spleen and the left limb of the pancreas. The results of the pathological analysis revealed a carcinoma, presumably of the pancreatic or bile duct. Further differentiation was not possible. However, because of its location in the abdomen a pancreatic origin is more likely. There are only a few reports of this kind of cancer in cats and this case is atypical because of its localisation, cystic character and long survival of the cat.
