Summary
Tracheal ruptures in cats are frequently traumatic in origin. The underlying cause is often reported as a hyperinflated cuff during endotracheal intubation. This case report describes the clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of tracheal rupture in a cat after intubation. Respiratory distress, pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax as well as subcutaneous emphysema are diagnostic indicators. Diagnostic imaging is an important basis for the effective management of tracheal rupture, particularly in life-threatening cases.
