Zusammenfassung

Um den Einfluss des krankheitsmodifizierenden ArzneimittelsNatrium-Pentosanpolysulfat (NaPPS - Cartrophen Vet)im Vergleich zum nichtsteroidalen Antiphlogistikum (Rimadyl®, Zenecarp®) im Hinblick auf Schmerz und Lahmheit zubeurteilen, wurden 104 Hunde mit Osteoarthritis (OA) ineiner multizentrischen, doppelblinden, kontrollierten, randomisierten,in Deutschland vorgenommenen Studie geprüft.Die klinischen Symptome wurden durch einen Tierarzt zuBeginn (Woche 1) und während der Behandlung (Woche 2,3 und 4) sowie vier Wochen nach der NaPPS-Therapie bzw.drei Wochen nach Absetzen der Carprofen-Behandlung(Woche 8) beurteilt.Vier subkutane NaPPS-Injektionen inwöchentlichem Abstand mit einer Dosis von 3 mg/kg Körpergewicht(KGW) und die tägliche orale Verabreichung vonCarprofen mit einer Dosis von 4 mg/kg KGW zeigten sichhoch wirksam hinsichtlich aller primären Prüfparameter wieLahmheit, Schmerz und dem orthopädischem Score (p

A comparator study of pentosan polysulfate and carprofen onthe clinical signs of pain and lameness in osteoarthritis
One hundred and four dogs diagnosted with osteoarthritis(OA) were enrolled in a multicentic, double-blind, comparatorcontrolled, randomised clinical study in Germany to establishthe effect on the clinical signs of pain and lameness of thedisease modifying antiostearthritis drug (DMOAD) sodiumpentosan polysulfate (NaPPS - Cartophen Vet) compared tothe non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) controlcarprofen (Rimadyl®, Zenecarp®). Clinical signs were assessedby the veterinarian at the onset of treatment (week 1) andduring treatment (week 2, 3 and 4) and four weeks afterNaPPS treatment and three weeks after carprofen treatmenthad ceased (week 8).
