Summary
The nephroblastoma (Wilm’s tumour) is mostly a unilateral embryonal tumour which can take huge dimensions. In humans it is described especially in children. This publication describes the rare occurrence of a nephroblastoma in a young European shorthaired cat. After diagnosis by x-ray, ultrasonography and computed tomography, the patient’s surgical treatment consisted of unilateral nephrectomy. The histopathology revealed a primary renal tumour ¬ a nephroblastoma. This report confirms that similar to humans the nephroblastoma is mainly found in young individuals. Despite the surgical intervention, the poor prognosis and short postoperative survival time described in the literature could be confirmed.
