Summary
Metastasizing osteosarcoma and pulmonary adiaspiromycosisin a free-ranging western European hedgehog (Erinaceuseuropaeus)An adult western European hedgehog was referred witha swelling and severe lameness of the left forelimb. Radiologically,a periostal neoplastic growth of a hen´s egg sizewas found on the proximal forelimb infiltrating the softtissue around the humerus, elbow, proximal radius andulna. It was characterized by bony density and a solar flareappearance. Pathology revealed a periostal osteosarcomawith metastases in the regional lymph node, lung, liver andsubcutis. In addition, a multifocal granulomatous pneumoniawas found with intralesional fungal structures. Themorphology of the latter was consistent with the dimorphicfungus Chrysosporium parvum var. parvum, the causativeagent of adiaspiromycosis.
