Summary
The treatment of chronic hip joint luxation using a total hipprosthesis in four dogsObjective of this study was a retrospective evaluationof clinical outcome and complication rate after total hipreplacement (THR) in large dogs with chronic hip luxation.Four dogs (body weight 24–36 kg) with dorsal femurluxation ( gt; 4 weeks) were clinically and radiographicallyre-evaluated four months after being subjected to a totalhip prosthesis (THP). One dog developed an acetabularcup displacement ten days after THP surgery. Subsequently, this dog was treated with a cemented cup prosthesis. Fourmonths after surgery, no lameness could be detected inany of the four patients, but three had muscle atrophy. These results show that good short-term results can beexpected in dogs with chronic hip luxation treated by totalhip replacement.
