Summary<\/span>
Mycotic infections in dolphins primarily affect the respiratory tract and skin. An 8-day-old, female, captive bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus<\/span>) showed uncoordinated swimming movements and increased breathing one hour before death. Reanimation attempts were not successful and necropsy was performed. Histological examination revealed an unilateral, pyogranulomatous and necrotizing otitis media with intralesional fungal hyphae with a morphology characteristic for Aspergillus<\/span> spp.. However, as molecular analysis of fungal material obtained from formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded material resulted in Penicillium<\/span> spp. (section Cinnamopurpurea) based on PCR results.<\/p>
