Physical examination revealed a palpable mobile mass in the mid-abdomen. A radiological examination showed the presence of a well-demarcated soft-tissue density tubular formation, located from the mid-abdomen to the pelvic cavity. Exploration of the abdomen revealed large, distended uterus, warm and tender to the touch. Ovariohysterectomy was performed and the patient successfully recovered. Sample was taken from the uterine lumen for bacteriological examination. Klebsiella (K.) oxytoca was isolated in pure culture, and found to be susceptible to the majority of the antibiotics used. This is the first report of K. oxytoca associated pyometra in a queen.
