European Union legislation (EC (No.) 2074\/2004) condones the approach of a riskoriented meat inspection for Trichinella in pigs which is accompanied by monitoring programmes for pig holdings and reservoir animals. Here we discuss the current epidemiological situation of Trichinella in the sylvatic cycle in Germany and the implications for the implementation of risk-based sampling.

Die Trichinellose ist eine lebensmittelbedingte Zoonose und wird durch Parasiten der Gattung Trichinella verursacht. Der wichtigste \u00dcbertragungsweg der humanen Trichinellose ist der Verzehr von Schweinefleisch, welches infektionsf\u00e4hige Muskellarven enth\u00e4lt. Aufgrund dessen werden in Deutschland alle Schlachtk\u00f6rper von Hausschweinen einer systematischen Trichinenuntersuchung unterzogen.
Gem\u00e4\u00df der Verordnung (EG) Nr. 2074\/2004 besteht auch die M\u00f6glichkeit einer risikoorientierten Trichinenuntersuchung, welche mit einem Monitoring zertifizierter Schweinebest\u00e4nde und Reservoirtiere einhergeht.
