A two-year-old female entire guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) was presented at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich with progressive left hind limb lameness and reduced general condition. The main finding of the clinical examination was a distended and painful abdomen with a palpable large mass in the right abdomen. Survey radiographs displayed a large, soft-tissue opaque mass in the right cranial abdomen with a mass effect on the surrounding organs and possible bony pelvic changes. Abdominal ultrasound revealed peritoneal effusion, severe metropathy with ovarian pathologies, mild lymphadenopathy, as well as mild hepato- and cholecystopathy and signs of cystitis. Explorative laparotomy was performed, which confirmed severe uterine alterations, changes of both uterine horns, as well as cyst-like altered ovaries, which were bilaterally filled with pus-like material. Since these changes were deemed inoperable, the animal was euthanised after owner’s consent.
